The History of Barasoain Church began in the 2nd day of September, 1854 when it was separated from Malolos. At the 31st of August, 1859, it became a full-fledged parish with the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish as its patron.

It became historical because it is where the Congress of Malolos was held. This is where the brave heroes and law experts went on 15 September 1898 when the Congress was opened up to 23 Enero 1899 when the Constitution was approved. The names of 193 delegates that represented different areas in the Philippines are stated in the old convent. Among these is Pedro Paterno, the first president of Malolos Congress and Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the republic. Also, Gregorio Aglipay, the former Catholic priest and the founder of the Aglipayan Church and Felipe Calderon, Antonio Luna, Trinidad Pardo de Tavera, Teodoro Sandiko, etc.

It is also where the Independence of the Philippines was approved in 29th of September 1898 that was announced in Kawit, Cavite on 12 June 1898. It is here that the First Philippine Republic was established. This is where Emilio Aguinaldo took his oath as the first president of the republic. Because of this, on 1st of August 1973, former President Ferdinand Marcos declared it as an "historical landmark" through Presidential Decree No. 260.

Barasoain Church is depicted in Philippine pesos, first in one peso, and on 1969, in ten pesos, as a background in Php 2,000.00 "Centennial Banknotes" with former President Joseph Estrada took his oath as the president of the Philippines after a century since the original Malolos congress.

We can truly hold high the history of Barasoain. But we should not stay in the past. We should continue moving forward to uphold Barasoain in the present. Let us make it a monument of progress, justice, equality, faith and love for God and others.

The 150th founding anniversary of our parish was celebrated in 31 August 2009. The church has been spreading the good news and giving sacraments for 154 years since its foundation: millions of masses have already been offered in this church; millions of Christians have already been baptized here; hundreds of thousands of couples have married here through the sacrament of matrimony; thousands of souls have been given the Santo Oleo here. Many. And hopefully the church will continue to be a voice and light of Christ to the people.
